Data breaches are on the increase and highly likely to occur unless you take important steps to prevent them happening. Cyber criminals will exploit multiple vulnerabilities in order to access, acquire and degrade a companies information assets. Attack methodologies are blended to exploit technical vulnerabilities, insecure business process and human behaviour. The approach can be varied but most incorporate some form of recognisance followed by ‘disruption of service’ which in effect is a distraction, enabling the theft of commercially sensitive data. In many cases this will be combined with some kind of ransom demand but may also result in company secrets being shared in fora on the dark web where other criminal groups will trade and monetise such stolen assets.
A data breach can have adverse economic, operational and reputation impacts. When a serious data breach occurs, you are also likely to be in breach of the Data Protection Act 2018 and could also suffer further financial penalties. Organisations who fail to comply and/or suffer a data breach could face a fine. In the most serious cases, this fine could be up to 17 million euros, or 4% of a company’s annual turnover. We can help you protect your data with bespoke data security and cyber security design and policy implementation.
We help our clients to identify their most important information assets, business critical functions and processes. Lines of defence can then be organised based upon analysis of the data and cyber security threat landscape, using bespoke security design and policy implementation. Embedding security consciousness which complements company aims and culture is key when creating a secure business environment.
A data security audit is the first step to improving security in your company. By honing in on what is most important to your business we will identify the strengths and weakness in your company’s security framework and posture, giving you a bespoke understanding of what needs to be done. This will enable your company to tailor security measures and controls that are aligned with your risk appetite, supporting and even enhancing your business priorities.
Our security audit will generate improvements which critically are in step with your companies business plans and which will help make effective and efficient choices when considering security status. We will propose a programme of improvements that target your key areas of risk exposure. Whilst cyber security is often at the forefront of security improvements, it is not an exclusively technical challenge. Rather it is built upon a holistic risk management framework, where people, process and technology collectively present the risk environment which is managed and mitigated.
Organisations should have a Cyber Security Strategy. This strategy must encompass a solid understanding of the threats, vulnerabilities and risk exposure that the organisation is exposed to, combined with a strategic approach to mitigate such risk exposure. Our skilled Cyber security consultants will develop and implement your whole Cyber Security strategy. We can apply Cyber Capability Maturity Modelling that will identify any gaps in defences ensuring that the protection of business critical activity and assets is prioritised.
